Standing Together in the Face of Tragedy

October 28, 2018

Dear Community Members,

Today we mourn the loss of many innocent people and those who were severely wounded at yesterday’s shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. We at the Schultz Campus for Jewish Life are deeply saddened by the news of the attack and offer our deepest condolences to our brothers and sisters, first responders and community members who were impacted by this horrific crime of hate. Together we stand with all of Pittsburgh and the victims in the face of this terrible violence.

We want to assure you that the safety and security of our members, visitors and staff remain our highest priority. We continue to work closely with the Akron Police Department, the Mayor’s office and other law enforcement officials on an ongoing basis, and have been in close contact with them this weekend as part of our security protocol. Please know that we remain vigilant and ask your cooperation in keeping the Schultz Campus safe. If you ever see anything that seems out of place or suspicious, please notify us right away.

In the meantime, you may notice a heightened security presence on campus in the coming days, which is standard procedure following events of this nature. Otherwise, things will be running as scheduled, though our hearts will be heavy as we mourn for those we have lost. May their memories always be a blessing. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me via email

Sincerely,

David Koch
