Free Healthy Senior Expo is a must-attend event for local seniors

The Healthy Senior Expo is Thursday, April 6, 8 a.m.-noon, and is free and open to the public. This event is presented by the Summit County Public Health Office of Minority Health and the Jewish Family Service of Akron and co-sponsored by Cleveland Clinic Akron General and Summa Health System. The Expo will offer free health screenings, giveaways, line dancing, senior exercise classes, cooking demonstrations, fun activities and “ask a doc.” Forty vendors are expected.

“We are very excited to offer this free event for our senior residents of Summit County,” says Gizelle Jones, executive director of Jewish Family Service. “We want to empower our seniors with the information offered at events like this, so they can learn to live healthy and take care of themselves. We’re hoping that seniors will take advantage of this fun, information-filled event.”

Vendors include Akron General VNS, American Cancer Society, AxessPoint, Battered Women’s Shelter, CareSource, Catch Program, Summit County, Da Suga Foundation, Essex of Tallmadge, Hospice of the Western Reserve, Jewish Family Service, Medicare, Ohio Department of Aging Healthy, Office of Consumer Affairs, Shaw JCC, Summit County Public health, Summa Health Systems, Summa Health Volunteer Services, The Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel, United Health Care, VA Medical Center and VA Clinic. The Healthy Senior Expo will be held at the Schultz Campus for Jewish Life, 750 White Pond Drive in Akron. Participants may ride free on any regular METRO line-service bus, 6 a.m.-3 p.m., on Thursday, April 6, for transportation to and from the event. Participants must download and print the event flyer available at www.jfsakron.org and show to the bus operator for the free ride.  The free fare does not apply to METRO SCAT, Call-A-Bus or Northcoast Express Services.
