The Akron Jewish community is invited to come together for a series of Community Shabbat Dinners in 2018. The first will be held on Feb. 16 at Anshe Sfard, starting at 5:30 p.m. with a Kabbalat Shabbat service and dinner at 6 p.m.
The evening's speaker will be Dr. Bernd Wollschlaeger. He will share his amazing life story, as chronicled in his book A German Life: Against All Odds Change is Possible, which describes his struggle growing up in Germany in the shadow of his father, a highly-decorated WW II tank commander and Nazi officer. Dr. Wollschlaeger eventually converted to Judaism, emigrated to Israel and served in the Israel Defense Forces as a medical officer. In Spring 2018 he will release his novel Samson's Shadow and his book Stauffenberg: My Live in the Shadow of a Hero.
