The J-Ticket

What is the J-Ticket?

Think of it as a "bundle of services" at Akron's Jewish institutions. The J-Ticket will significantly reduce the cost of the Mandel Early Childhood Education program at The Shaw JCC or The Lippman School tuition, and the Shaw JCC Jewish summer camp. It also includes a discretionary program credit and a membership at participating synagogue, for Jewish families who choose to enroll and purchase a J-Ticket.

Why was the J-Ticket created?

In the JCBA's efforts to sustain Jewish life in Akron, we wanted to focus on engaging families and reduce the cost of Jewish participation at our Jewish institutions, particularly among young Jewish families who are our future. By significantly lowering the overall cost of participation, young Jewish families will be better able to engage in multiple programs and find an easier path to organized Jewish life in Akron.

How are you able to offer this program?

Using funds from the Albert L. and Janet A. Schultz Endowment for Jewish Programming and consistent with the Schultz family’s stated areas of interest, the J-Ticket was born.

How does the J-Ticket work?

The J-Ticket is open to all Jewish families, regardless of financial need. The cost for enrollment depends on the J-Ticket chosen (see below). New for 2017: Families with one child in The Lippman School and one child in the Mandel ECE may purchase one J-Ticket in each program for a total of two J-Tickets. (No family may have two J-Tickets in the same program.) The Lippman and ECE J-Ticket benefits are for the school year and therefore, begin in August 2017. (Enrollment during the year will be prorated.)

J-Tickets can be purchased by the participants themselves or by family members, such as parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Payments may be made in full to Jewish Community Board of Akron (JCBA) or if you already use FACTS you may do so for this. Download an application here.
