Who We Are: The Jewish Community Board of Akron is a volunteer association of concerned and committed people that exists for the purpose of preserving, enhancing and perpetuating the Jewish way of life. Affiliated with the United Jewish Communities.

What We Do: The JCBA's annual UJA/Jewish Welfare Fund campaign provides funds for the United Jewish Appeal, Campus Student Services, the Jerry Shaw JCC, Jerome Lippman Jewish Community Day School, Jewish Family Service, and Immigrant Resettlement; in addition to many other local, national and international programs and agencies.

Programs and Services:

Akron Jewish Community High School, the "Hebrew High", is a project of the Jewish Community Board of Akron, in cooperation with Beth El Congregation, Temple Israel, Anshe Sfard Synagogue and Jerome Lippman Jewish Day School.

Akron Jewish News, the community's award-winning Jewish newspaper. Established in 1929, it covers local community, national and international items of Jewish interest, as well as cultural features on holidays, books, food and entertainment. Call (330) 869-2424 for a sample issue.

Akron Legacy & Endowment Fund (ALEF) was established by the JCBA to provide an independent source of funding for community needs not provided through the annual UJA/Jewish Welfare Fund Campaign. For more information contact Endowment Director Greta Foster, greta_foster@jewishakron.org.

College Student Services: Hillel House at Kent State University and the University of Akron.

Community Relations Committee, works to combat Anti-Semitic practices and to insure a free and open society in which Jewish life and learning can flourish.

Educational Resource Center services teachers and students in both the Jewish and non-Jewish community. Houses Jewish Heritage Video Collection, slides, films, and media equipment, a small library, display materials, maps, posters, curricula materials, and a laminator to reserve projects and teacher-made aides. Offers workshops for continuing teacher education, and provides speakers for schools, churches and civic groups on Holocaust, Israel, the Middle East, Jewish Community and Jewish Customs.

Speakers Bureau   Need help planning a class or a program? The Speakers Bureau of the Jewish Community Board of Akron will provide qualified speakers for your classroom, congregation or organization. There is no charge for this service.

  • Holocaust

Israel Incentive Savings Program, joint venture sponsored by the Federation, in conjunction with area congregations to assist families in financing an approved educational trip to Israel for their children.

Jewish Identity Development Fund, provides grants for new and innovative programs.

Lawyers Group,educational and social group.

New Leadership Development, recruits, educates, trains and renews community leadership.

Maimonides Society, educational and social group for healing arts professionals.
